If you remember PE in school, you may remember the Presidential Fitness Award given to kids who are able to run, jump, throw and do pull-ups. Being a late bloomer, I was never able to get this coveted award in school. If you are like me and want redemption, then here is our chance to shine. The President’s Council on Physical Fitness (yes, the same that was run by Arnold Schwarzenegger) has an award for adults, the Presidential Life Style Award (PALA). The test consists of walking a mile or running a mile and a half and recording the time and your heart rate. (Any Junior HS or Senior HS track will do for this test: 4 times around for a mile and 6 times around for a mile and a half.) The other tests are push-ups, sit-ups and flexibility testing that we can administer for you anytime at Sound Health’s Fitness Studio (and is now part of the enhanced physical examination). Once you have achieved your PALA, you can then apply for the Presidential Champions Challenge;awards are given for points you earn for exercises that you do. The more points you earn, the sooner you’ll reach the point total required for yourdesired award: 40,000 points for bronze, 90,000 for silver, 160,000 for gold, and a whopping 1 million for platinum. We have set up a group for all members called Sound Health. Our group number is 939260. Login and sign-up at www.presidentschallenge.org. Once you achieve the PALA, we will give you the certificate and patch so you can show off to your friends and family. You will also receive the cool shirt to tell everyone you’ve earned this prestigious award. For those wishing to track their activity points for the Presidential Champions Challenge, we will submit your scores and award your medal. Also, we will publish your name and points in upcoming Well Now! publications.
