Since June 1 we have been holding a fun group exercise class called boot camp at our Lynnwood Clinic.  The class is taught by drill instructors Tony Aspinall and Pam McCammon at 0730 on Fridays.
Our first class was attended by 6 brave souls on a cool, but clear morning.  We warmed up and then went on a 5 minute out and back run/jog/walk along the Interurban Trail just behind the Lynnwood Clinic.  Once we got back to the back parking lot we were greeted by a fun yet challenging obstacle course that included stepping through a flat ladder and jumping over short hurdles.  Each lap of the obstacle course was separated by running up and down the back stairs of the clinic (20 stairs…3 floors=60 stairs).  After Tony felt we were good and tired he had us divide into pairs and do paired exercises consisting of push-ups, sit-ups and planks. Tough, but fun the sweat began dripping from my tired brow.  Just as I recovered my breath, Tony had us do stationed exercises.  These exercises are things like rowing, skipping rope, doing dips from the curb and a new favorite, running with a PVC pipe half-filled with water called a “slosh pole” on your back around orange cones.  It sounds easy, but you have to run upright in order to keep the water from sloshing to one side or another to throw you off balance.

I must say that the time went by quickly; I regained consciousness and realized that 60 minutes was up!

Overall, boot camp is a fun way to cross train.  You can work as hard as you want and doing group exercises beats the boredom of the treadmill.

Sound Health Boot Camp will happen each Friday morning at 7:30 a.m. in the back parking lot of our Lynnwood Clinic at 18631 Alderwood Mall Parkway.  We have showers in our clinic to clean up after boot camp.  Call Katy if you are interested in attending: 425-654-3516
